President Trump denied he would attempt to postpone the 2020 presidential election after his Democratic rival Joe Biden argued he would.
“I never even thought of changing the date of the election. Why would I do that? Nov. 3. It’s a good number. No, I look forward to that election,” Trump told reporters on Monday.
“I’m not thinking about it at all,” he added. "Not at all."
The president said the assertion was “made-up propaganda” by Biden’s campaign staff, but the presumptive Democratic nominee predicted Trump would try to delay the general election during a virtual fundraiser last week.
"Mark my words: I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can't be held," Biden said Thursday. "Imagine threatening not to fund the post office. Now, what in God's name is that about? Other than trying to let the word out that he's going to do all he can to make it very hard for people to vote. That's the only way he thinks he can possibly win."
The coronavirus pandemic has fueled a debate over mail-in ballots and absentee voting as states order residents to remain at home. Trump has claimed large-scale mail-in voting would be rampant with fraud and harm Republican chances of winning elections.
