Recent news the NBA was planning to allow teams to open their practice facilities on Friday was seen as a glimmer of hope for many basketball fans itching for the 2019-20 season to resume. But as word got out, some red flags were raised by NBA teams, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
NBA has received significant pushback from teams about idea of re-opening practice facilities in selected states and municipalities, team officials tell ESPN. Competive balance hasn't been issue -- player/staff safety has. Teams are still awaiting a more detailed NBA plan today.

As Wojnarowski says, the reason for concern surrounds the safety of players and, one can presume, those they interact with at home. If NBA players are going to practice facilities and encountering others, they could be at greater risk of contracting coronavirus. And, by extension, their families would be as well.
It is not surprising some would sound the alarms given how directly affected players around the league have been by COVID-19. Several players have contracted the virus including Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Kevin Durant, while Karl-Anthony Towns' mother passed away due to coronavirus complications.
If the league does decide to move forward with some semblance of the original plan, the Wizards would likely have to wait longer than other teams. The plan only allows teams in states where social distancing rules are being relaxed to open up shop.

The Wizards' practice facility is located within the city of Washington, D.C. and Mayor Muriel Bowser has been extra cautious, taking action before many other areas of the country did and with rules that go beyond other municipalities.
According to Wojnarowski, the league is at the very least pushing the date back from May 1, likely another week at the minimum. We'll see what other adjustments are made once league executives go back to the drawing board.
