HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - As morning fog and low clouds burn off, it will end out being a mostly sunny day. While not truly hot, it will be much warmer than Sunday’s cooler day. High temperatures will mostly top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s, but to the far west and northwest, there may be some mid to upper 90s. It will continue to be rather muggy today and the rest of this week, which will bring the feels like (heat index) temperature up a bit. Winds today may provide a little relief as they’ll be out of the south southeast at 7 to 17 mph. Outside of a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in far North Central and Northeast Nebraska, the rest of the area will remain mostly clear. With the high amounts of humidity, it’s certainly possible to see fog redevelop tonight and for the next several nights. Look for low temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and lower 70s.

The next two days will feature the hottest temperatures of the week as an upper level ridge centers itself over the Central Plains. High temperatures tomorrow will feature widespread 90s. On Wednesday, it’ll be more firmly in the mid to upper 90s. There could be a few triple digits in our northern and western communities. With continued dew points of around 70° or higher, heat index values in the afternoon and early evening both Tuesday and Wednesday could end out between 100° and 110°. On Tuesday night, it will again be quiet outside of a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in far North Central and Northeast Nebraska.

The ridge will begin to break down as a cold front approaches on Thursday. This will cool part of the area down. Farther south and southwest, it’ll still be quite toasty. Highs will range from the upper 80s northeast to the mid/upper 90s southwest. Heat index values in our south and southwest could still be up well over 100°. Mostly sunny skies are expected.

The ridge continues to break down to end the week and the heat pushes back to our west. Highs on Friday could range from the low/mid 80s northeast to the mid 90s southwest. Much of the area should be down into the 80s for highs on Saturday (maybe some lower 90s in the southwest). Widespread 80s are expected on Sunday. Friday morning through Sunday morning will hold slight chances for showers and thunderstorms. Much like this past weekend, this could be a case of some lucky locations picking up some decent moisture while a large part of the area misses out.
