Little Onion
Santa Ana staple expands to Irvine with brunch and new flavors.
Forty years after the founding of its Santa Ana original, Little Onion has opened an outpost in Irvine. Regional Mexican favorites and combo-plate classics are here, but so is a weekend brunch (think chorizo breakfast burritos and churro-inspired pancakes) and unique specialties, like a guajillo-braised short-rib tempura tamal. 14429 Culver Drive, Irvine, 949-316-4600

Bello
Chef behind Angelina’s Pizzeria opens Italian flagship in Newport Beach.
Italian cooking is famed for seasonality and locality with dishes that reflect a certain time and place. Bello by Sandro Nardone aims to capture that ethos with dishes inspired by classic Italian sensibilities. Look for burrata with trout roe and chile, rigatoncini pasta with house-made sausage and porcini mushroom, and pork chop with parsnip puree and roasted fennel. 1200 Bison Ave., Newport Beach, 949-520-7191

Cream Pan
Japanese bakery brings its famous strawberry croissants to Fountain Valley.
Since 1988, Cream Pan has baked some of the county’s best French-inspired Japanese pastries. Now, fans have reason to celebrate with a second location in Fountain Valley. The new space is cavernous and modern, but there are the same sugar-dusted strawberry croissants, flaky baguettes, sweet-savory curry pan, and airy cream puffs. 15945 Harbor Blvd., fountain valley, 714-760-4854

Renzo’s A Taste of Peru
After closing its Irvine location years ago, Renzo’s is reborn in Lake Forest.
Renzo’s was once Irvine’s favorite source for bracing ceviches and lunch-friendly Peruvian sandwiches. Now the restaurant is reopened in Lake Forest and as good as ever. All the favorites are here: The tart ceviche mixto is freshly addicting, and the beefy lomo saltado wrap is a perfect midday meal. Grab some buttery alfajores cookies for dessert. 24354 Muirlands, Lake Forest, 949-273-3322

Drink of the Month
Twain
The Guild Club
Until recently, The Guild Club was a members-only space from the team behind neighboring Arc. Now, the dark, ornate bar at SoCo is open to all. It’s designed for indulgence, with a moody elegance that opts for the top shelf. So it goes with the Twain, the bar’s take on an Old-Fashioned with spendy Pappy Van Winkle 10-year-old bourbon and Angostura bitters.
