Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady was COVID-19 positive in February following the Buccaneers' Super Bowl win, he told the Tampa Bay Times in an interview. Brady, who is vaccinated, added that he thinks the virus is “going to play more of a factor this year" than it did last year.
"I think it’s going to be challenging this year," he said. "I actually think it’s going to play more of a factor this year than last year, just because of the way what we’re doing now and what the stadium is going to look like and what the travel is going to look like and the people in the building and the fans."
Despite reaching a 100 percent vaccination rate, the Buccaneers have already dealt with coronavirus issues this season.
They placed defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on the reserve/COVID-19 list last week and he could not travel with the team to Houston for the preseason finale. Suh is the fourth Bucs player to be placed on the list, joining kicker Ryan Succop and offensive linemen Earl Watford and Nick Leverett.
After Succop tested positive for the virus, head coach Bruce Arians said that he would not allow players, including those who are fully vaccinated, to leave the team hotel or have family visit during road trips this season.
