The Fort Worth Animal Shelter has had its challenges this year. It has been at or beyond capacity for most of the year. Adoptions continue to increase, but some of the pets have been at the shelter for months.

Staff and volunteers came up with the idea to host a birthday party and adoption event honoring a few of the pets that have been at the shelter the longest.

“We know this will be a festive event as many of our pets have never known their birthday, or it got lost along the way,” said Anastasia Ramsey, Code Compliance supervisor for shelter operations at the North Animal Campus. “Our goal is to provide additional attention for all the pets and help them find the life they deserve.”

The Birthday Party & Adoption Event is set for 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the North Animal Campus, 351 Hillshire.

Featured pets include Sundae, Ozzy, Gladys, Rollie, Blaze and Princess. But every dog and cat will enjoy a special piece of birthday cake courtesy of Three Dog Bakery and the Cowtown Friends of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control.

“We have cake for everyone. Even our human guests will enjoy refreshments and cupcakes,” Ramsey said. “Our shelter pets need tons of love, forever homes and a big piece of cake. We invite the community and their families and friends to stop by. Even if they’re not ready to adopt right now, we invite them to tour the new campus, meet some of the staff, and of course the dogs and cats.”

All adoptable animals will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventatives. Learn more about adopting, fostering or volunteering. 

Photo: One of the party honorees, Blaze is about 7 years old but still has spunk. He loves to go on walks, loves people and he has very good manners. Blaze is an Irish wolfhound mix and weighs a little over 100 pounds. He’s got the best personality and would be great with any family who can dedicate time for play and walks.
