MECOSTA COUNTY — The District Health Department No. 10 reports 58 new cases of COVID-19 and one death in Mecosta County in the past four days.

During a three-day period, from Saturday, Sept. 11, through Monday, Sept. 13, Mecosta County had 51 new cases, according to DHD No. 10. Seven more cases were added Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases since March 2020 to 3,401. The death was reported Tuesday, the 37th of the pandemic.

Exposures last week (Sept. 4-11) stem from community and household contact, worksites, schools and colleges, according to DHD No. 10's weekly COVID-19 update.

Ferris State University reported six new cases Monday, for a total of 21 active cases.

"Active cases reflects the count of positive cases reported to the University over the past ten days," Ferris states on its COVID-19 Data webpage. "This is an estimate of those currently in isolation, assuming a ten day symptomatic period following the report of a positive test result."

Mecosta County, as a whole, reported 298 active cases Monday.

Here's the latest seven-day running average from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention's COVID Data Tracker:

• Mecosta County: High community transmission level with 100 cases and 12 hospitalizations (Sept. 6-12); and a 15.05% positivity rate (Sept. 4-10).

• Osceola County: High community transmission level with 55 cases (Sept. 6-12); and a 15.31% positivity rate (Sept. 4-10).

• Lake County: High community transmission level with 33 cases (Sept. 6-12); and a 17.97% positivity rate (Sept. 4-10).

• Newaygo County: High community transmission level with 92 cases and seven hospitalizations (Sept. 6-12); and a 12.84% positivity rate (Sept. 4-10).

• Isabella County: High community transmission level with 215 cases and four hospitalizations (Sept. 6-12); and a 9.34% positivity rate (Sept. 4-10).

• Wexford County: Substantial community transmission level with 24 cases and four hospitalizations (Sept. 6-12); and a 4.97% positivity rate (Sept. 4-10).

The CDC determines the community transmission level by 1) the number of new cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days, and 2) the percentage of positive test results in the past seven days.

The CDC recommends that people in counties with high or substantial community transmission levels wear a face mask in public, indoor settings regardless of vaccination status.
