The Atlanta Falcons are planning to try out punters this week after Cameron Nizialek's two shanked punts in a 48-25 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, a source tells The Athletic. Atlanta has not made a decision on Nizialek yet, according to the source.
With the Falcons trailing 28-25 in the fourth quarter after coming back from an 18-point deficit, Nizialek punted 33 yards to the Falcons’ own 43-yard line, setting the Bucs up with a short field. It only took Tom Brady three plays to find Chris Godwin for a 12-yard TD pass, extending the lead back to double digits. Nizialek also had a 30-yard punt in the first quarter, but the Bucs fumbled on the next drive.
Nizialek punted four times for an average of 39.3 yards.
The shanked punts weren’t the only issues for a Falcons team which allowed five passing touchdowns to Brady and saw Matt Ryan throw three interceptions, including two pick-sixes in the fourth quarter.
