London Shemo is seen on her first day at Charles H. Bullock school, and after moving up to middle school. (COURTESY LONDON SHEMO AND FAMILY)

I am a “moving up” student from Charles H. Bullock School. My Mom showed me a photo she took of me my first day at CHB.

As I look at the picture of the younger me five years ago, I feel the joy of having great teachers and staff at CHB, and learning so much from them all.

Although my last year at CHB was virtual, logging on and joining the class during the coronavirus pandemic brought an everyday joy! I hoped to one day get back to school to see my friends and learn together, even though my family eventually chose to stay remote.

Last Wednesday, June 23, at our “moving up” ceremony, seeing my classmates in-person was unreal! Seeing everyone was beautiful and I am forever thankful to everyone at CHB for making the get together happen. We all looked good! Some got taller, some let their hair grow longer or shorter, and one friend, who never spoke on Zoom, had a deeper voice, which was real cool. It was a great day and I loved it all!

A BIG shout out to the CHB PTA for the end-of-year gifts. A beach towel signed by all the classmates was awesome and our yearbook was the highlight, with students’ quotes, which were outstanding! I put a few of the quotes in my journal.

I hope my teachers in middle school are just as excellent and caring as the teachers and staff at Charles Bullock.

Happy summer, everyone!
