The Mets are still waiting to play their first game of the 2021 season, but contract talks (or lack thereof) with stars like Jacob deGrom and Michael Conforto have taken center stage.
Here’s what happened in Mets Land, in case you missed it…
- Sources tell SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino that that Mets had preliminary contract extension talks with deGrom during spring training, though the talks aren’t expected to resume during the season
- As for Conforto, Martino reports that there’s nothing doing between the outfielder and the Mets in terms of a contract extension
- Manager Luis Rojas admitted that the postponement of the Nationals series was a letdown, but he says the Mets are ‘ready to go’ for Monday night’s opener in Philadelphia
- Rojas also offered a few updates on Seth Lugo and Carlos Carrasco as the pair of pitchers continue their recovery from injury
- Following Saturday’s sim game in Washington, catcher James McCann explained that the Mets can only deal with the cards they’ve been dealt in terms of staying prepared for the start of their season
