The New York Giants — like every NFL team — have been handcuffed during the pre-draft process due to the presence of COVID-19.

Rather than face-to-face meetings, teams have been relegated to Zoom conference calls with potential prospects. There was also no NFL Combine in Indianapolis earlier this year, while the pro days were extremely restrictive.

As a result, the Giants have spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone.

“You know, you have 300-plus guys that normally go to the Combine, we had about 150 this year, so you’re looking at about half the people our doctors don’t have their hands on. We’re all adapting to everything during this pandemic, so you’re relying on phone calls and getting that information,” Giants director of college scouting Chris Pettit told reporters earlier this week.

“I mean, we’ve done endless amounts of Zooms. The league allows you five Zooms, but that’s just a Zoom. We’ve talked to these guys all season when we can, when we’re allowed to in scouting season, but it’s every day. The scouts have been awesome, they’ve been working the phone lines just to get to know them.”

“When I get on the Zoom calls – we’re still in the interview process with the players, so I’ve been doing two guys a night,” general manager Dave Gettleman added.

As a result of these changes, the Giants, as Pettit and Gettleman allude, have met with plenty of prospects via Zoom based on NFL rules. And one of the players they’ve met with is South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.

Horn acknowledged meeting with the Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions during a one-on-one interview with Josina Anderson on “Undecided.”

“They were all great meetings,” Horn said, adding little else. “I’m just sitting back and waiting. I’m hearing all types of different stuff, [but] I’m just ready to be on a team and get ready for the season.”

The Giants, of course, have Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry on one side and signed Adoree’ Jackson to line up next to him this season, but you can never have too much talent at one position (royalties to Gettleman).

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Horn opted out after seven games at South Carolina this past season to concentrate on the NFL Draft. He was in the middle of a breakout year. Through seven games, Horn had recorded 16 tackles, two interceptions and six passes defensed.
