Hitting error message while registering for COVID vaccines in Dallas County? Try again, authorities say - The Dallas Morning News

People hitting an error message when trying to sign up online for COVID-19 vaccinations through Dallas County should make sure they are starting at the right place, officials say.

Several people have reported completing the online registration form only to then be told “the maximum number of people have already responded to this form.”

The error is due to a feature of Microsoft Forms, the software the county is using to collect registrations, said Lauren Trimble, chief of staff for Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. The system can only accept 50,000 applications before the link to the registration form automatically changes to accept new entries, Trimble said.

She said anyone encountering the problem should access the form directly through the county’s website by clicking the green button that says “click here to register for the COVID vaccine.” It contains a link to the latest form.

Trying to access the registration form through indirect means — such as clicking a link shared through a text message, for example — will yield an error message if the user clicked the link after it had already reached the 50,000-application limit.

Trimble said she doesn’t know how many people have run into the problem, which has existed since online registrations with the county began.

She said county officials haven’t specifically mentioned the error to the public but instead have been directing people to register directly through the county website to avoid running into the problem.

Dallas County commissioners on Wednesday approved hiring a new public relations firm, call center and software company to address issues with the registration process and the public messaging around it.

Dallas county and city leaders on Friday urged everyone to register to get vaccines whether they fall within the phase 1A and 1B categories or not. They said it was to ensure that people are in line when vaccine supplies increase and more people become eligible.

Registration drives have also been held to help people without internet and computer access.

Trimble said Microsoft Forms will likely continue to be used until sometime next week.

“We had to get something up and running ASAP while we went through a procurement process to hire a more permanent solution,” she said.

In addition to registering online, people can get on the vaccine waiting list by calling the county’s hotline at 469-749-9900.
