Casey Mize, Tigers try to sweep Twins on Sunday: Live updates, stats - MLive.com

DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers rookie Casey Mize will try to lead his team to a fifth consecutive victory and a series sweep of the Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers (15-16) and Twins (20-14) meet at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday at Comerica Park.

Right-hander Kenta Maeda (4-0, 2.21 ERA), one of the league’s top pitchers in 2020, will be on the mound for the Twins.

Mize (0-1, 7.04) is making the third start of his career.

The Tigers have won six of eight games and won three consecutive series since snapping a nine-game losing streak on Aug. 21 at Cleveland.

Top 7th: Tyler Alexander gave up a two-out single and manager Ron Gardenhire turned to struggling reliever Joe Jimenez, who struck out Nelson Cruz to end the inning. Tigers 3, Twins 2.

Bottom 6th: Jonathan Schoop led off the sixth with a solo home run down the right-field line to give the Tigers the lead for the first time since the first inning. Tigers 3, Twins 2.

Bottom 5th: Kenta Maeda cruised through the fifth, striking out Grayson Greiner and Isaac Paredes and getting Victor Reyes to bounce out to second. Tigers 2, Twins 2.

Top 5th: A 1-2-3 inning for Tyler Alexander, who got Nelson Cruz to pop out and struck out Miguel Sano before Jake Cave ended the inning with a fly to center. Tigers 2, Twins 2.

Bottom 4th: Jeimer Candelario hit a 406-foot home run to right field after falling behind 0-2 and then working the count back to full against Kenta Maeda. Tigers 2, Twins 2.

Top 4th: Tigers reliever Tyler Alexander strikes out the first two batters he faces in a scoreless inning. Twins 2, Tigers 1.

Bottom 3rd: Jonathan Schoop got a two-out bloop single, but Kenta Maeda has otherwise been largely untouchable since the first. Twins 2, Tigers 1.
