A cold, refreshing beer can be one of the most enjoyable things, especially during the summer.

New Jersey is blessed with over 130 craft breweries and more continue to pop up. Each offers their own twist on delicious brews ranging from shandys to interesting plays on porters and sours.

Many of these are just what is needed after a day in the hot sun.

We’ve taken a look at all the tap lists and tried various samples to compile this mega list, or maybe call it a checklist, of drinks you won’t want to miss during the hottest days of the year.

Here are 53 New Jersey craft beers you absolutely have to try this summer. Get them before they’re gone!

7 Mile Brewery - Mexicali Blues

The Mexicali Blues is a Mexican-styled light lager that is superbly crushable. It’s low in ABV at 5% and checks in at 11 IBU. The Skinny Dipper (Blonde Ale) is also worth your time.

Alementary - Literary Trope Raspberry Wheat

The base is Alementary’s Belgian Wit and it gets infused with over 10 pounds of French raspberries per barrel. A perfect blend of sweet and tart can keep you drinking this all summer.

Angry Erik Brewing - Wandermuch?

A Saison that has an earthy and dry finish. It all features floral and fruity aromas. Belgian-What?!? (Multigrain Blonde Ale) and Paulinskill Ale could have also made this list.

Ashton Brewing Co. - ‘Aina Farmhouse Ale

Ashton used Wai-iti hops from New Zealand to help make this tasty summer saison. Tastes of peaches and apricots follow a hint of citrus. Get it while you can. Also take a look at Summer Alarm Clock (cream ale) and Beach Badges (Czech dark lager).

Backward Flag Brewing - Sand Rations

Sand Rations is a traditional German wheat beer. Perfect for days in the sunshine and it won’t hit hard at 5.5%. It features subtle hints of clove, bananas and bubble gum. Jelly-Filled Cinnamon Donut (Milk Sugar Raspberry Sour) could also catch your eye.

Battle River Brewing - Sedge Island Prickly Pear

A wheat- and pilsner-based beer is just what is needed in the summer months. This one is both sour and sweet. Battle Light (American Light Lager) and Bluecoat Blueberry (Blonde Ale) should be ordered as well.

Bonesaw Brewing Company - Demon Blanc

Orange zest and coriander finish off this Belgian-style wheat beer. It’s easy to drink at 5.5% and is a textbook porch-sipper. Also try the Queensicle (Orange-Vanilla Cream Ale).

Bolero Snort - Moojito Lager

Bolero frequently rotates its lineup, so some of its beers are only around for a limited time. The Moojito Lager has a nice blend of lime juice and mint and is fairly crushable at only 4.5% ABV. Don’t stop there. Also, give the Bull Pop and Wave Grazer a shot.

Bull N Bear Brewery - Short Squeeze

Summer is a perfect time for a shandy and this is Bull N Bear’s offering. At just 5% and 25 IBU, this beer is too good to pass up. Investment Grade Blonde Honey is a solid choice, too.

Cape May Brewing Co. - The Grove

To be fair, you can’t go wrong with most of the lineup Cape May offers. The Grove is a delectable citrus shandy that could be the go-to drink on a golf course, at the beach or on the porch. They’re not kidding when they call it “the most intensely crushable beer” on their website. Tan Limes, Strawberry Sunset and the Crushin’ It series are also perfect.

Carton Brewing - Boat

Carton’s session ale is an easy-drinker. Kolsch yeast, German malts and American hops are all in the mix and a touch of grapefruit rounds it out. Another beer worth your time is Brach (Session IPA). If you’re a Bruce Springsteen fan, try Dethrone the Dictaphone (New Jersey IPA), a callback to Blinded by the Light.

Chilton Mill Brewing - Munich Helles Lager

Hints of citrus and honeydew add to this offering and the end result is a “dangerously refreshing lager” according to the Chilton Mill website.

Cross Keys Brewing Co. - Slippery Pete

Slippery Pete is a gose brewed with mango, lime and sea salt. It’s tough to have just one, especially since it’s only 5.1%. The Landing Strip (Kolsch) is also a good one.

CzigMeister Brewing - Orange Cream Ale

CzigMeister is always a good time and the Orange Cream Ale highlights this seasonal rotation. It’s been updated with more orange, vanilla and lactose. The Huntsman is a delicious flagship beer and the Blacksmith Chocolate Stout is also worth a try.

Death of the Fox Brewing - Taste of Summer Strawberry Wheat

Plenty of wild strawberries make up part of this American pale wheat beer’s makeup. The end result is a crisp, smooth and light drink. Harry Potter fans should taste Professor Fox’s Magical Butter Beer, while others could also grab a pint of Hessian Session Bavarian Kolsch.

Double Nickel Brewing Co. - Sun Surfer

Double Nickel’s summer crusher, get it before it’s gone. Valencia oranges add a touch of citrus to the overall taste of this fruited blonde. Death of the Pool Noodle (fruited kettle sour) is another good one, as is Laid-Back Lager (American golden lager).

Dr. Brewlittle’s - Dock’s Orders

Dr. Brewlittle is relatively new to the scene, but it has a solid addition to this list. Dock’s Orders is an American Pilsner made with American Cascade hops. It’s an easy-drinker at 5%. Also worth trying is the Maple Shade Lager and Chickety Czech yourself.

Eight and Sand Beer Co. - Smoked Pineapple Hefeweizen

The taste of smoked pineapple? Yes, please! This hefeweizen is just 6% with 13 IBU. Other lineup highlights include Guac Is Extra (American Lager), Clown Car (Fruit Sour) and Monkey & the Engineer (Hefeweizen).

Fort Nonsense Brewing Co. - In Full Effect

A hazy New England IPA that lands at 6%, you can’t go wrong with a double dry-hopped beer with Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra hops. Project Lola (American Lager) is also very refreshing.

Flying Fish Brewing Co. - Hazy Bones

Citra, Amarillo and Mosaic hops help create this tasty hazy IPA. Hints of pineapple and mango are also present. Try the Salt and Sea session sour as well.

Frye Brewing Co. - Sea Breeze

This wheat ale is brewed with sea salt and coriander. It was the base beer for the superbly delicious Cooler, which was infused with cucumber and isn’t on the tap list anymore (try it the second it comes back). Also try Summ’time Blonde and Sunset Beach Blonde when you visit this Ocean County brewery.

Garden State Beer Company - Blue Jersey

This is a crowd favorite at Garden State. It’s a German-American wheat beer that’s “for the crowds who haven’t yet acquired a taste for powerfully hopped, or complex craft beers” according to the website. The German hops add a nice peppery spice that blends with a touch of fruit flavor. Another American wheat, the Don’t Go Chasing Watermelons could’ve also made this list.

Glasstown Brewing - Seaside Summer Wit

Cumberland County’s only brewery makes an appearance with a tasty witbier. A hint of lemon perfects this light and refreshing brew. Also Czech out the Pilsner.

Glenbrook Brewery - MacCulloch Kolsch

Glenbrook is another brewery in its infancy and it offers a delightfully refreshing drink in this Kolsch. At only 5%, it’s easy to have a few. Also try its Colonial Ale.

Ghost Hawk Brewing - Sun Soak

Pilsner malt, British oats and NZ Kohatup hops form what Ghost Hawk describes as an “ultimate summer refresher.” The subtle hint of tropical fruit adds to the depth of this easy drinker.

Hackensack Brewing - Shandy Savage

This is an exceptional drink for the warmer days of the year. At only 5.3% ABV, it becomes quite crushable as well. To make this even more enticing, it’s also available in slushy form. Also be sure to try the incredible Beach Badge or Hula Skirt.

Hidden Sands Brewing Co. - Strawberry Wheat

Hidden Sands’ attempt at an American Wheat Ale with a light amount of Citra hops and a refreshing taste. The strawberries add plenty to it. Also give the Sand Blasted Sour Guava and Sandy Blue a try.

Hoboken Brewing - Bodi Blonde

This beer was inspired by Patrick Swayze and the movie Point Break. It’s a blonde ale infused with coconuts. Unlike some other beers on this list, this is available year-round. You can find it in a can or by paying a visit to the Shepherd and the Knucklehead.

Icarus Brewing - Bay Dreamer

The Pineapple Hindenburg was an incredible beer that was recently taken off the tap list, but Icarus still has more than enough to offer starting with Bay Dreamer. Palisade and Lemondrop Hops help make up this Session IPA a tasty one and it’s only 4.6%.

Jersey Cyclone Brewing Company - Beach Blonde Lager

Jersey Cyclone’s Helles lager is too good to pass up. It’s a perfect companion for a beach day, golf cooler, pretty much anything you can come up with. Try the Uncharted Waters series and Eye of the Storm (Citra IPA), too.

Jughandle Brewing - Mosaic Pale Ale

At just 5.2%, this American Pale Ale is incredibly drinkable. Blueberry, tropical fruit, citrus and pine notes make this an intriguing beer. A pleasant bitterness makes it even better.

Kane Brewing - Head High IPA

Kane is another establishment that could have six different entries on here. Head High and Sneakbox are two of the best. Head High is a 6.6% IPA, while Sneakbox is a pale ale that tips the scales at 5.4%. Another one worth trying is the Aloha Shirt, a piƱa colada IPA.

Lone Eagle Brewing - Flemington Fog

A juicy, hazy IPA, the Flemington Fog is a slightly sneaky 7.0%. Pool Party Punch is a fruited kettle sour that could also have made this list. While you’re at it, check out the Helles Lager as well.

Magnify Brewing's Cool Aide & Frozen Pizza

Magnify Brewing - Cool Aide and Frozen Pizza

Cool Aide and Frozen Pizza is a smoothie-style sour ale made with guava, pineapple, apricot, mango, blood orange and Kool Aid. Raw Essentials is another must-try. At just 4.9%, this Munich-style Helles Lager is sure to please. Aging in oak barrels gives it bonus points.

Man Skirt Brewing - Baltic Beach Chair

Man Skirt and CzigMeister are about 500 feet apart in Hackettstown, a craft beer fan’s dream. The latter has plenty to offer on this list, starting with Baltic Beach Chair. This is a classic German Hefeweizen that is just what is needed throughout the summer. If beers aren’t your thing, Man Skirt offers a wide selection of tasty seltzers.

ManaFirkin Brewing Co. - It’s Beach Saison

A sour undertone completes this ale that has a balance of spice and fruit. Chocolate malt creates a darker color but also adds extra sweetness. ManaFirkin has plenty more to offer on its tap list, too.

Montclair Brewery - Raspberry Shandy

This shandy is made with Montclair’s Raspberry Framboise acting as the base. Handcrafted Cranetown limeade syrup is added to make a light, sweet and flavorful drink that is only 3.5%. The Back Ah Bush (Farmhouse Ale Saison) and Golden Buddha (Golden Ale) won’t disappoint, either.

NJ Beer Co. - Beach Watch

NJ Beer Co. only releases this in the summer months, so get it while it lasts. Mosaic and Atheneum hops are both used, as is pilsner malt. At 4.6%, it’s an easy-drinker whether you’re up in Bergen County or down the shore.

Odd Bird Brewing - Joe’s Garage

Odd Bird’s website even considers it one of their favorite warm-weather beers. Joe’s Garage is a German Pale Ale that drinks like a lager. A slight fruitiness gives it a nice taste and it’s only 5.2%. Bird Light, a Mexican-style pale lager jumped off the menu as well.

Red White and Brew Company - Summer of ’76

This American Wheat is perfect for hot days. Very light, very refreshing. American Northwest Hops are mixed in and the end result is a brew at 6.3% and 19 IBU. Give Me Liberty (Kolsch) and Black and Blue (Fruited Wheat) get thumbs up, too.

Seven Sons Brewing - Katz un Maus

A combination of the standard Hefeweizen with blood orange. A very mellow sweetness adds to a pleasant aroma, which helps make this a solid pick for this brewery that opened in May 2021.

Source Brewing - Source of WIT

Sweet orange peel and coriander were added to this Belgian wheat beer. It’s tough to have just one. Also give Source of Cheers (Munich-Style Helles Lager) a shot.

South 40 Brewing Company's Chinook Breeze

South 40 Brewing Co. - Chinook Breeze

South 40 opened its doors in late 2020, becoming the fourth brewery in Middlesex County. The Chinook Breeze is a delicious IPA with pure juice and a very smooth finish.

Swedesboro Brewing Company - New Sweden Blonde Ale

This Gloucester County brewery opened in May 2021. Described as “deliciously welcoming,” this blonde ale is designed to persuade the non-craft folk to join the club. El Mapache (Mexican Lager) is a solid fallback.

Sunken Silo Brew Works - Lost Valley

An incredibly tasty summer wheat beer that’s a smooth 5%. It’s tough to have just one but each sip tastes just as good as the first. Coriander and orange peel highlight some of the brewing ingredients.

Three 3′s Brewing Company - Blueberry Saison

Mosaic hops and a wealth of blueberries from Hammonton highlight the making of this light-body Saison. Crisp and juicy, and clocks in at just 6% ABV. Also try the Twisted Cobbler: Mango Madness.

Toms River Brewing - Gnar Watermelon Gose

Toms River has been rolling out a Saltworks Gose series and this was the first. Hallertauer Mittelfrueh hops were used. Sea salt was added at the boil and 40 pounds of watermelon were added during secondary fermentation. The Peach Gose is another edition of this series. At Wits End (Wheat Beer) and Blueberry Summer Ale (Blonde Ale) are go-tos as well.

Tonewood Brewing - Fuego

A local favorite, Fuego is what plenty of people are looking for in a summer drink. It’s a golden, hazy IPA with aromas of lemons, mangoes, grapefruits and peaches. A pint of Freshies (Pale Ale) is worth it as well.

Twin Elephant Brewing Company - Old School Freight

Designed for all-day consumption, this Altbier is just 5%. It’s described as a “summer chuggy crusher” on their website, which is all you need to know. Intergalactic Kegger, a fun nod to Men In Black, is another go-to as well.

Two Ton Brewing Co. - PleaTed WheaT Hefeweizen

A seasonal German-style Hefeweizen, this beer was originally brewed in collaboration with Manskirt Brewing in Warren County. Sorachi Ace and Mandarina Bavaria hops combine for a great-tasting drink. U60311 Kellerbier is a staple on Two Ton’s rotation and that could’ve made this list as well.

Untied Brewing Co. - Long Days Short Years

Described as “easy drinking and full-bodied” on Untied’s website, this Bavarian-style pale lager is clean and crisp. Untied offers a few other very tasty lagers, too.

Westville Brewery - All Day Hefeweizen

Subtle flavors of clove and banana highlight this Hefeweizen from Gloucester County. The Badges Brew (Blonde Ale) is a solid choice too and it is brewed for Rolling Badges MC, which honors police, firemen, first responders and military personnel.

Wet Ticket - Tastes Like Summer Watermelon Wheat

Just one sip will make you fall in love. Tastes Like Summer lives up to the local hype. Fresh watermelon juice is added once fermentation is almost complete and the end result is a home run.
