Tigers try to bounce back vs. Royals: Live stats, updates - MLive.com

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers will try to get back on track Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals.

The game starts at 7:10 p.m. at Comerica Park and will be televised by Fox Sports Detroit.

The Royals beat the Tigers 14-6 Monday night in the opener of the four-game series, spoiling the return of Michael Fulmer.

Rookie Rony Garcia will start and make his MLB debut for the Tigers. He’ll face Royals right-hander Kyle Zimmer.

Top 8th: A 1-2-3 inning by Tigers reliever Buck Farmer was aided by a brilliant stab of by third baseman Jeimer Candelario of a bullet hit by Whit Merrifield. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Bottom 7th: For the third consecutive inning, the Tigers strand runners after a promising start. Niko Goodrum’s lead-off single against Greg Holland was for naught. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Top 7th: Tigers reliever Gregory Soto mowed down the Royals in order, getting two on strikeouts. Soto has struck out 7 of the 12 batters he’s faced so far in the young season. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Bottom 6th: Another missed run-scoring opportunity for the Tigers, who reach on a walk and a single to open the inning against Royals reliever Josh Staumont. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Top 6th: A 1-2-3 inning for Jose Cisnero that includes a strikeout of Adalberto Mondesi. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Bottom 5th: Royals reliever Josh Staumont hit two batters and issued a walk but the Tigers failed to score. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Bottom 4th: The Tigers go 1-2-3 against Royals reliever Jake Newberry, although one of the outs included a 403-foot Comerica Park fly-out by Austin Romine. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Top 4th: Reliever Tyler Alexander breezed through his first inning of work, getting Salvador Perez and Ryan O’Hearn to go down swinging. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Bottom 3rd: The Royals went to the bullpen after JaCoby Jones was plunked in the head to open the inning. But reliever Tyler Zuber did not fare well, serving up a 442-foot homer to Jonathan Schoop and a 404-foot blast to Christin Stewart. Tigers 4, Royals 3.

Top 3rd: Tigers pitcher Rony Garcia made a boneheaded fielding error, winging the ball past first baseman C.J. Cron well after the runner had crossed the base, then served up a three-run homer to Tigers nemesis Whit Merrifield. But just when it looked like his debut might unravel, Garcia K’d the next two batters, ending his MLB debut on a good note. Royals 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 2nd: Tigers were about two inches from having a two-run lead, but Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield stabbed Austin Romine’s two-out liner, stranding runners at second and third. Tigers 0, Royals 0.

Top 2nd: Rony Garcia looks comfortable out there. He retired the Royals in order, ending the inning with his first career strikeout when he got Maikel Franco looking. Royals 0, Tigers 0.

Bottom 1st: The Tigers didn’t make Royals starter Kyle Zimmer work too hard. Three groundouts and a quick 1-2-3 inning. Royals 0, Tigers 0.

Top 1st: A nice start for Tigers rookie Rony Garcia, who retires Whit Merrifield on a groundout, which is an accomplishment in itself. Jorge Soler singled to left, but he was erased when Adalberto Mondesi grounded into a double play. Royals 0, Tigers 0.
