LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada group that organized to try to recall the mayor of Las Vegas says it is ending the effort after failing to collect voter signatures.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that on June 20, halfway through the 90 days that the recall effort had to gather 6,745 signatures, the effort had not collected any signatures.
Former professional poker player Doug Polk organized the effort after Goodman pushed to reopen casinos and suggested Las Vegas could be a test for reopening amid the coronavirus. Polk said the virus made collecting signatures for the recall petition risky and challenging.

“It just started to look like a very, very unfavorable situation,” Polk said. “It’s disappointing to say the least.”
Goodman said the recall effort had been a distraction.
“I’m delighted that this is off the table because we have so many issues and it’s really about the greater good of our community and it’s not about me,” she said.
State and local officials said Goodman made comments that were “reckless” and “an embarrassment” when she told CNN in April that “viruses for years have been here” and suggested that Las Vegas residents become “a control group” to see how lifting closures and some restrictions would affect the city.
