10 New D.C. Patios to Try This Weekend - Eater DC

A plethora of patios just came to life across D.C., bringing diners and drinkers an array of new options under the sun.

Under D.C.’s COVID-19 reopening protocols under Phase 2, guests are required to wear masks (except when eating and drinking), tables are limited to six, and at least one food item must be ordered per table. Many restaurants and bars encourage or require reservations.

More outdoor dining destinations are on the horizon. On Thursday, July 23, both Dupont Circle wine bar Nero and MGM National Harbor’s TAP Sports Bar reopen with patio seating.

Here’s a list of the newest patios to try right now:

Cafe Riggs: Penn Quarter’s soaring European brasserie, situated at the foot of the months-old Riggs Washington DC hotel, just welcomed back seated guests with a newly added outdoor terrace. Along with weekend brunch, highlights across chef Patrick Curran’s menu include halibut, warm pea salad, and a chicken salad sandwich with pickles and French fries. 900 F Street NW

Tabla: The couple behind Logan Circle’s Supra just expanded their Georgian footprint in D.C. with a second restaurant in Park View. The days-old eatery sports a 25-seat patio serving amber wines, boat-shaped cheese breads, and khinkali (soup dumplings). 3227 Georgia Avenue NW

Pinstripes: It’s reopening day for Georgetown’s resident bowling alley. The entertainment complex’s brick-lined patio overlooking the C&O Canal is filled with outdoor bocce courts, fire pits, and bar access, with half-off wine bottles on Fridays and bottomless weekend brunch. 1064 Wisconsin Avenue NW

Immigrant Food: Chef Enrique Limardo’s global street foods spot near the White House unveils a new outdoor patio bar today. Summer elixirs include white sangrias, Micheladas, and limonadas — a Middle Eastern favorite that mixes mint and lemonade. 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Truxton Inn: The back patio just went live at the library-themed cocktail bar, bringing alcoholic frozen pops, sangria, and crushes to the table, along with best-selling classics like the JFK on Vacay. Since Truxton’s food lineup is short (popcorn, snack mix, and mixed nuts), the team is collaborating with the DMV Food Truck Association to import more menu options; Little Miner Taco will park outside tonight. 251 Florida Avenue NW

Jackie: Dacha Navy Yard just adopted a new 1960s-themed identity that pays homage to stylish First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Along with two large outdoor patios and a cocktail bar overlooking the Anacostia River, Jackie offers American classics from chef Jerome Grant (an alum of Sweet Home Cafe at the National Museum of African American History). 79 Potomac Avenue SE

Coconut Club: The island-style oasis in the Union Market district just revived seating across its pink patio, featuring walk-up service for salmon poke and piña colada pouches. 540 Penn Street NE

Brighton: The Hilton brothers’ Wharf watering hole just grew in the Southwest waterfront neighborhood with the addition of pop-up weekend restaurant dubbed Brighton Beach. Located on Market Pier, the outdoor installation serves patriotic favorites like hot dogs, lobster rolls, and canned beers. 101 Market Square SW

Hook Hall: The year-old bar and events space that has served as a relief center for restaurant workers throughout the coronavirus crisis recently rebooted its 7,000-square-foot patio with a tropical new look and menu full of Caribbean flavors. 3400 Georgia Avenue NW

Blagden Alley: The secluded dining destination in Shaw now lets its restaurants spill out into the street under a new “streatery” allowance, and places like Michelin-starred The Dabney and Hong Kong-styled Tiger Fork are in on the outdoor action.
