Try on before you buy? Some stores won’t have fitting rooms when they reopen - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Retail shopping will be a different experience when stores start reopening May 12.

Just like you do at the grocery store, you’ll find employees wearing masks, decals on the ground telling you where to stand and plenty of hand sanitizer.

Need to try something on before you buy it? Forget about it at some stores.

Fitting rooms at Old Navy, Athleta, Gap, Banana Republic, Foot Locker and Kohl’s will be closed until futher notice once those stores open their doors again. Target, which has stayed open during the pandemic, closed its dressing rooms weeks ago.

“As we adapt to this new normal together, we are prepared to deliver customers a shopping experience that supports the health and safety of our communities, with the brands that they love and trust,” Gap Inc. wrote in a blog post.

Department stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, plan to keep dressing rooms open, but fewer will be available and they’ll be cleaned after each use. As an added precaution, tried-on items will be kept off the floor for at least 24 hours.

Need to try on a pair of new shoes? Foot Locker says you’ll still be able to do that.

Gov. Mike DeWine has given retailers the all-clear to reopen starting Tuesday provided they implement prescribed safety protocols, but don’t expect all stores to open right away. So, check before you go.
