Ohio Senate smacks down House Speaker Larry Householder’s try to silence Amy Acton: The Wake Up podcast - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder wanted to limit the authority of state Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton. The State Senate was not on board.

In today’s podcast, cleveland.com editor Chris Quinn says the Senate sent a strong rebuke to Householder, rejecting a bill that would have stripped authority from Acton by a 32-0 vote. Even if it had passed, Gov. Mike DeWine said he planned to veto the bill. A Lake County judge did hand DeWine a setback, saying the state did not have the authority to close gyms and fitness centers because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. And troubles continue for the state’s unemployment computer system ... personal information of claimants was left compromised by the company contracted to build a new filing program.
