Will the Browns wait and try to trade for Trent Williams when they’re on the clock at No. 10? Hey, Mary Kay! - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Hey, Mary Kay!

Hey, Mary Kay: Do you see the Browns waiting until they are on the clock at 10 to make a decision on Trent Williams? If they get to 10 and the offensive tackles they want are gone and Isaiah Simmons is not there, can you see them trading out and using the extra second round pick they might receive to get Trent Williams? — Browns Insider, 919 area code

Hey, 919: I think anything is possible on draft day, including trying to trade for Trent Williams if their top targets at offensive tackle are gone. However, I do believe that one of their top choices will be there at No. 10 and that they’ll stay there and select the heir apparent to Joe Thomas. Again, Andrew Berry will aggressively try to upgrade this roster, and I expect him to wheel and deal on draft day.

Hey Mary Kay: Do you honestly think the NFL will go as scheduled this year? Many events are already canceled for this summer and forward. I sure hope so! — Brownsfan330

Hey, Brownsfan330: I know that President Trump and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell are confident the NFL season will begin on time in September and conclude uninterrupted with the Super Bowl in February. I certainly hope they’re right. But I keep coming back to Dr. Anthony Fauci saying that the coronavirus will set the timeline, not individuals. Large sporting events with fans in the stands won’t be able to take place until better testing methods and treatments are available. I’m thrilled that they’re optimistic, but the doctors seem to be throwing up the yellow caution flag for now.

Hey, Mary Kay: Assuming the front office and coaches agree on the best offensive tackle in the draft do you believe the Browns might actually try to move up in the draft to get the guy they really covet? — Karl Morgan Hill, CA

Hey, Karl: With four or five very good offensive tackles available, quarterbacks such as Oregon’s Justin Herbert gaining steam and Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah in the top 10 of many mock drafts, I don’t think the Browns will need to trade up to draft their left tackle of the future. I think one of their top choices among Mekhi Becton, Andrew Thomas, Tristan Wirfs and Jedrick Wills will be there for the taking and that they won’t have to give anything up to get one of them.

Hey, Mary Kay: Any chance Browns trade up and take linebacker Isaiah Simmons from Clemson? — 330

Hey, 330: Linebacker doesn’t seem to be a high priority for the Browns right now, but Simmons isn’t your typical linebacker. He’s so versatile, so disruptive and so dominant in so many ways. He can rush, cover, tackle, create turnovers and more. He’s the kind of player I think would be worth trading up for. I still think the Browns will stay at 10 and draft a left tackle, but if they acquire Trent Williams, Simmons comes into play.

Hey, Mary Kay: I don’t think Olivier Vernon will be with the Browns after the draft. I still think they have their sights set on Everyone Griffin signing for like a two or three-year contract and cutting in Olivier Vernon. — 419

Hey, 419: I think Vernon will be on the team unless the Browns sign former Seahawks edge-rusher Jadeveon Clowney, whom they’ve expressed interest in. Clowney is reportedly looking for an average of about $17 million to $18 million a year, and Vernon is due to make $15.5 million. They won’t be able to pay them both that much, so something would have to give. But the Browns are willing to pay up for one of the pass-rushers, who are hard to come by.
