BAY CITY, MI — A pumpkin caramel cheesecake shake may sound decadent, but the owner of Water Street Nutrition in downtown Bay City says it’s actually a healthy meal replacement.

“They have the benefits of a full, healthy, balanced meal,” Chris Garbe said of his new shop’s shakes. “It’s really good for on-the-go or if you have a busy day.”

The shakes, available in more than 100 flavors, including seasonal offerings, have 24 grams of protein, 21 vitamins and minerals, and 250 calories or less.

“They taste amazing — like milkshakes without the dairy,” he said.

Water Street Nutrition, “a healthy shake and tea bar,” also offers protein-packed coffee drinks, teas touted as metabolism boosters, and “protein bites” for a healthy snack alternative. For $9, customers can get a shake and tea combo. And with seasonal and weekly specials, there’s “always something new to try out,” Garbe said.

Popular offerings for fall include the pumpkin caramel cheesecake shake and pumpkin caramel brownie coffee. Other beverages highlighted recently on the Water Street Nutrition Facebook page include Halloween-themed “tea bombs” such as “vampire’s blood,” a bright red and white beverage with strawberry, coconut and pineapple flavoring, and a multi-colored “witch’s brew” with blue raspberry lemonade and grape flavoring, both served over ice.

Garbe said Water Street Nutrition can also accommodate customers with dietary restrictions, including vegans and vegetarians.

Water Street Nutrition opened at 904 N. Water St. in June. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
