After Long Wait - Racers Try For Fourth-Straight OVC Championship - MSU GoRacers

2021 OVC Golf Championship LogoThe Murray State women's golf team tries for their fourth-consecutive Ohio Valley Conference championship Sunday through Tuesday (April 18-20) at Hampton Cove Golf Club in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. The 54-hole championship will be played on Hampton's Highlands course.

After Covid-19 pandemic cancellations across the sports spectrum a year ago and into fall 2020, the Racers have been back at it in the spring of 2021. At the Kiawah Island Classic (March 2), the Racers placed sixth in one of the largest fields in all of collegiate golf of 41 teams. MSU also had top-10 finishes in strong fields at the Bama Beach Bash (March 21) and Chattanooga Invitational (March 30). The Racers won their home event last week by taking the Jan Weaver Invitational by one shot over Central Arkansas.

Already the leader among all Murray State head coaches, Coach Velvet Milkman is looking for her 13th OVC championship.

Renovated in 2008, The Highlands course has been restoredHampton Cove to its original Scottish Links design. The Highlands course has a very challenging finish on the last three holes. One of the most recognizable landmarks on the Highlands Course is the old mule barn beside the fifth green. 2021 is the fourth time the OVC event will be held here after 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Racers' current run of three titles in a row started at Hampton Cove in 2017 with a 10-shot win over Eastern Kentucky.
