It was billed as potentially being one of the biggest storms that the tri-state has seen in years, and it delivered a powerful punch, along with howling winds.
The snow started around 2 p.m. in some spots of New Jersey, and within a couple of hours, the entire region was seeing snow sticking to roads.
Through 7 a.m. Thursday, 10 inches had accumulated in Central Park, while Suffolk County on Long Island had seen nearly 7 inches. In Westchester County's White Plains, 11 inches were reported, while parts of Orange County had seen 10 inches. Totals in Queens and the Bronx ranged from about 8 to 9 inches.

Much of northern New Jersey saw totals in the 6 to 9 inch range, while Brooklyn in New York City saw lesser amounts. In Sherman, in Connecticut's Fairfield County, nearly a foot of snow had been reported by 5:15 a.m.

The largest totals appeared to be in parts of New Jersey, as expected (Storm Team 4 predicted some areas would get as much as 2 feet of snow). As of 5:30 a.m., the Warren County town of Belvidere had reported 10.4 inches, just about a half an inch more than it had seen as of midnight. Perth Amboy in Middlesex County had 9 inches at the same time.
