Even in the desert, Stephen Curry couldn’t heat up in the Warriors' 104-96 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.
Curry had the worst shooting night of his career, including playoffs, when taking at least 20 shots.
The Warriors guard struggled all night, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-21 shooting from the field and 3-of-14 from 3-point range, three rebounds and two assists.
It was Curry’s 329th game attempting at least 20 shots -- and his first of those games shooting under 20 percent.
But Golden State hasn’t always had to rely on Curry’s offensive play to win games this season.
Jordan Poole’s explosive start got things rolling on the offensive end for the Dubs. He had 16 points in the first quarter alone and collected 12 more points throughout the rest of the game.
Then Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II put on a show.
OPJ finished with 16 points (6-11 FG, 4-8 3PT), six rebounds, three assists and one steal, while GP2 added eight points (4-6 FG), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Still, the Warriors couldn’t shut down the Suns’ bigs.
DeAndre Ayton and JaVale McGee combined for 32 points for Phoenix.
And even without star guard Devin Booker, who left the game in the second with a hamstring injury, the Suns won their 17th straight and ended the Warriors' seven-game winning streak.
The two teams remain at the top of the league and currently have identical 18-3 records.
The Warriors play the Suns again on Friday night, this time with a home-court advantage at Chase Center.
