NCHC TV, the league's streaming platform, crashed.
Fans, who were not allowed to attend the games because of the coronavirus pandemic, took to social media to try to figure out what was happening and to express their frustration.
So, what happened?
NCHC commissioner Josh Fenton said the viewership numbers were so large that the league's streaming partner, Sidearm Sports, was unable to handle it.
"It was disappointing and we obviously didn't want to have that happen," Fenton said. "I think that's the negative of the story. The positive of the story is they've never seen that amount of traffic coming to their platform. That is what caused, to some extent, that hiccup that happened during that particular game."
The problem was fixed soon thereafter.
Sidearm Sports isn't new to college athletics. It partners with numerous schools (such as Alabama, Duke, Michigan and Oregon) and conferences (such as the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12). But the NCHC TV numbers during the Pod, a three-week event where all eight NCHC teams traveled to Omaha to play a combined 38 games, were high by their standards.

"I don't have any exact numbers for you, but we had incredible viewership with NCHC TV," Fenton said. "In fact, during the first week, we had a couple games that were record numbers since the start of NCHC TV. We had more of those as we progressed throughout. The viewership numbers were like nothing we had ever seen before, or our technology partner, Sidearm Sports, had ever seen before, which is a great thing."
Midco Sports Network produced all 38 games of the NCHC Pod. The games were carried Midco Sports Network and streamed on NCHC TV for those not in Midco's region.
Midco used three different play-by-play announcers, Alex Heinert, Ben Holden and Donny Baarns. It also used three color commentators, Jake Brandt, Dave Starman and David Brisson.
Profits from NCHC TV are distributed back to the schools. The streaming package is one way schools had hoped to offset some costs of the Pod.
"The digital network continues to be a big part of our conference, a big part of our promotion and our branding," Fenton said. "We were excited to be able to deliver great content over the past three weeks through that platform to all of our fans across the country and even across North America and the world."
