The 2020 Emmys took place—albeit in virtual, socially distanced form—on Sunday night, and really, what’s an awards show without a little bit of social media reflection? Even if we can’t have a normal red carpet, a packed audience or post-awards party gossip about who flirtatiously grabbed whose Emmy, at least we can have a plethora of reaction gifs. Twitter users had plenty to say about the unprecedented sweep of Schitt’s Creek:
One of the night’s best, most cringe-inducing jokes was Ramy star Ramy Youssef’s tweet about seeing his hazmat-suited, Emmy-bearing volunteer unceremoniously take off when Youssef lost to Schitt’s Creek:
The viewing audience was thrilled to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II collect an Emmy for his role on Watchmen, and dedicate his award to “all the Black women in my life”:
Paul Mescal may not have won for his role as Connell on Normal People, but at least his plant took center stage:
The women of Friends reunited onscreen for one brief, shining moment:
The Succession anticipation reached a fever pitch as the night stretched on:
Finally, the delightfully twisted Roy family had its moment in the spotlight, with Succession's Jeremy Strong taking home the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series (side note: What was up with his fancy, vaguely Edwardian-looking neck tie?):
Zendaya took home the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her starring role in Euphoria, becoming just the second Black actress to win in the category, and her heartwarmingly emotional acceptance speech sparked plenty of warm responses:
