The Falcons had a 99% chance to win vs. Bears and Cowboys, but lost both games - Sporting News

The Falcons are off to a rough start to the 2020 season after yet another heartbreaking loss.

Atlanta shocked everyone in Week 2 when the Falcons blew a 39-24 lead in the final eight minutes against the Cowboys. In fact, the Falcons at one point, according to ESPN's Gamecast, had a 99.9% chance of winning that game at one point. Several Dak Prescott touchdowns and a blown onside kick later and, well, you probably know the rest.

The Falcons found themselves in a similar spot in Week 3 against the Bears. Chicago entered the fourth quarter trailing 26-10. Things had gotten so bad for the Bears, they benched starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky in favor of Nick Foles.

With Foles under center, the Bears led a comeback charge and scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. ESPN's Gamecast had the Falcons with a 99.6% win probability at one point in the game, meaning the Falcons blew back-to-back games where they had at least a 99% chance of winning.

This is not only crazy, it's also historic.

The Falcons had 15-point fourth quarter leads in back-to-back games, and blew them both. This led to some wild statistics regarding the Falcons' start to the season.

These losses have now moved the Falcons to an 0-3 start, which does not bode well for their future. Since 1980, 181 NFL teams have started 0-3 and only six of them of reached the playoffs. It's crazy to think the Falcons could easily be 2-1 right now instead.
