The Steelers are set to finally host the Ravens today (at least of this writing) at 3:40 p.m. ET after what has been a frustrating week-and-a-half stretch that saw three postponements of the game because of Baltimore’s COVID-19 issues.
And you have to think Pittsburgh wants to beat its AFC North rival by 100 points after all that has happened since last week.
The Ravens, whose health, of course, is the most important thing in all of this, have had a large coronavirus outbreak that first started a week ago Monday. They shut down their team facilities on that Monday, just a few days before the originally scheduled Thanksgiving Day game was to take place.
Then, thanks partly to a member of the Ravens’ staff who was punished for not wearing a mask and for not doing the proper tracing protocols, the cases skyrocketed and the games kept getting rescheduled – from Thursday to Sunday to Tuesday to Wednesday.
All along the Steelers, who have deserved more from the NFL, have been waiting to find out when they’re playing while knowing now they won’t have much time between their Week 12 and Week 13 games. They also had their bye moved to Week 4 earlier this season because of an outbreak with the Titans, who also didn’t do a good job of following protocols.
Now the Steelers will finally be able to play the Ravens, who won’t look like the regular Ravens thanks to a number of key players being out. The biggest name, of course, is QB Lamar Jackson, who will be replaced by Robert Griffin III.
The Steelers always want to crush the Ravens and the two teams usually play very physical games.
Now the Steelers will want to just let out all of their frustrations with the situation and how the league has handled in on a nationally televised Wednesday afternoon game.
And you have to think they can’t wait to light up the scoreboard.
