A Norwell man is accused of trying to break into the same Cohasset home two times on Sunday, according to police.
Dylan Donahue, 27, has been charged with breaking and entering into a building in the nighttime, and possession of burglarious tools.
Cohasset Police on Sunday had spread the word about a home break-in that was captured on the front door’s Ring video early that day.
Then at about 8 p.m. on Sunday, Cohasset Police responded to the same home on Atlantic Avenue for another report of a residential break-in.
The homeowner, who was not home at the time, received an alert via text from his Ring doorbell camera, showing a man trying to enter the back of his home.
Upon arrival, officers found Donahue in the backyard of the home. Police believed that he was the same man shown in Ring footage during the break-in at the same home earlier Sunday.
Police arrested him in connection with the earlier break-in, and brought him to Cohasset Police headquarters. He was held overnight, and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.
Police are still trying to determine if anything was stolen during the break-in or during the subsequent break-in attempt. The investigation remains ongoing, and Donahue could face additional charges.
“The homeowner and dispatchers did an excellent job in this case by staying on the telephone together and guiding our officers to the suspect,” Chief William Quigley said in a statement. “This arrest was made due to the outstanding work by our patrol officers, detectives and dispatchers. It also shows that home security devices add that extra layer of protection, and we highly recommend them.”
