White County has reached over 900 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health report on Tuesday, Oct. 6, White County had 902 confirmed cases since the first one was reported in mid-March.
As of Oct. 5, the White County Emergency Management Agency considered 645 cases to be recoveries out of the 892 cases reported by DPH at that time. A patient is considered to have recovered 21 days after a confirmed case report is provided to the county.
DPH said Tuesday that Georgia’s seven-day moving average of new cases reported increased by 3.4% between Sept. 29 and Oct. 5, though it remained down 67% from the state’s peak July 24. On a much smaller scale during that period, White County’s seven-day average of new cases slightly increased from 5.4 on Sept. 29 to 6.9 on Oct. 6, after seeing the average decline the previous week.
The DPH update listed 48 new cases from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6. Counts for previous weekly periods were 38 from Sept. 22 to Sept. 29, 130 from Sept. 15-22, 64 from Sept. 8-15, and 94 from Sept. 1-8.
For the month of September the county has had 343 cases reported to DPH through Sept. 30, compared to 217 total in August, 149 total in July and 143 from all of April 1 through June 30.
As of Oct. 6, DPH reported that there had been 20 deaths attributed to the coronavirus in White County. The ages of the deceased listed include men ages 26, 60, 65, 68, 79, 81, 83, 84, 85 and 88, and women ages 43, 56, 71, 76, 77, 82, 88 and three over 90. All but two are listed as having chronic health conditions.
White County Schools
The White County School System weekly COVID-19 status report on Oct. 7 said there were currently three students who had reported positive for COVID-19 and 42 students quarantined for possible exposure at that time. At that time, there was one report of a staff member with a positive COVID-19 test, and five staff members quarantined for possible exposure.
The reported numbers reflect students and staff who are out on that particular day – in this case, Oct. 7 – because of either a positive test or exposure to somebody with COVID-19, Director of Student Improvement Cindy Free has previously said. However, these are not cumulative numbers.
The school system currently has 3,733 students enrolled and 557 staff members.
