From family friendly to frightening, here are 7 Halloween activities to try near Jackson - MLive.com

JACKSON, MI - Halloween is just weeks away, and while the coronavirus pandemic has cut back on big events and trick-or-treating, spots across the Jackson area are planning socially distanced activities.

Here are some haunted houses and costumed events on tap.

“Halloweentown” Drive-thru Halloween Event

Address: Jackson County Fairgrounds/Keeley Park, 200 W. Ganson St. Use the entrance on N. Blackstone St.

Jackson County Parks and Recreation will welcome families to a (mostly) drive-thru Halloween event on Friday, Oct. 16. The family-friendly event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a “trunk or treat.” Then, kids younger than 15 can participate in a costume parade at 7:30 p.m., with the night wrapping up with a drive-in movie showing of Disney’s “Halloween Town” at 8 p.m.

Prizes will be given to the top three costumes, organizers said. Plaques will also be given to the best decorated trunks. Apply to be a trunked candy vendor online.

Goblin Walks

This year, the Goblin Walks are 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 24-25. Cost is $7 per member, $10 for nonmembers and free for infants.

Groups of 10 will enjoy a three-quarter mile walk of autumnal color, meeting “larger than life critters” that perform educational skits.

A tour takes place every 15 minutes and registration is required. Those interested can call 517-782-3453 or visit the website.

Downtown Jackson Fall Festival

Address: Southwest corner of Louis Glick Highway and Mechanic Street.

Anyone looking for less-scary, more-autumnal activities can stop by the Grand River Farmers Market on Oct. 17 for a fall festival. The event, from 10 a.m. to noon, includes pumpkin painting, cider and doughnuts and a live performance from the Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s brass quintet on top of the ongoing farmers market.

The festival is free.

Jackson’s Underworld

This four-story, 115,000-square foot haunted house takes about 45 minutes to walk through. It’s open every Thursday through Sunday in October. Underworld will also host a “trunk or treat” for kids starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Tickets start at $25.

Discounts are available for patrons going through two attractions and for groups. Tickets and scheduling information is available online.

Awaken Haunted Attraction

Address: 4760 Churchill Road, Leslie.

This haunted house promotes 32,000 square-feet of Halloween excitement that’s “not for the faint of heart.” Visitors can walk through “four attractions” on Fridays and Saturdays for $25 per ticket for the remainder of October.

Awaken will have one Thursday event available on Oct. 29, a total blackout night, according to its schedule. Groups of four people will get one flashlight to go through the house.

Shawhaven Haunted Farm

Boasting “140 acres of fear,” this farm property in Mason has a corn maze, pumpkin patch, escape rooms and two haunted attractions that are mostly outdoors.

Attractions are open Fridays and Saturdays in October. All tickets are timed this year to maintain group sizes for social distancing, according to the website. Tickets for each haunted attraction is $18, or $30 for both. Tickets can be bought ahead of time online.

Zombie Woods Haunt

Fans of the undead can walk through this Zombie apocalypse-themed attraction in Cement City on weekend nights this month. The entire attraction takes about 30 minutes to walk through.

Tickets start at $20 and are available online or at the gate.
