Here's our list of at least 84 Utah schools that have had a COVID-19 outbreak or closed as a precaution - Salt Lake Tribune

So far this fall, at least 72 schools in Utah have had a coronavirus outbreak — and 12 others have shifted online early to avoid one.

Those 84 have all come in a span of roughly three months after most districts in the state reopened in August at the encouragement of the governor. What’s followed has been a lesson in what can happen when students return to the classroom before COVID-19 is under control.

Most of the schools with outbreaks have been high schools, with 53 total. And 19 of those have had more than one outbreak, spurring them to close and reopen and sometimes close again when they hit 15 cases, which the state recommends should trigger a two-week shift to online instruction.

SALT LAKE COUNTY

Canyons School District

Corner Canyon High: Initially moved to a hybrid schedule on Sept. 11. But after cases continued to climb, it moved to all online, starting Sept. 21 for about three weeks. After returning in person, it closed again on Nov. 16 for two weeks of online learning.

Alta High: Closed Sept. 22 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person briefly, it closed again on Nov. 13 for another two weeks of online learning.

Brighton High: Closed Sept. 22 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person, it closed again on Nov. 18 for two weeks of online learning.

Draper Park Middle: Closed Sept. 28 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Indian Hills Middle: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Jordan High: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Hillcrest High: Closed Nov. 23 for two weeks of online learning.

Granite School District

Granger High: Closed Sept. 23 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person briefly, it closed again in early November after hitting the threshold a second time and scheduled another two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Olympus High: Closed Sept. 23 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person briefly, it closed again on Oct. 28 after hitting the threshold a second time and scheduled another two weeks of online learning. It closed again on Nov. 23 after a third outbreak.

Cottonwood High: Closed Oct. 14 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person briefly, it closed again on Nov. 13 for another two weeks of online learning.

Hunter High: Closed Oct. 19 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Kearns High: Closed Oct. 19 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Taylorsville High: Closed Oct. 28 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Cyprus High: Closed Nov. 5 for two weeks of online learning.

Skyline High: Closed Nov. 6 for two weeks of online learning.

Jordan School District

Riverton High: Closed for two days for cleaning and returned, like normal, on Sept. 21. It hit the threshold for cases again on Oct. 15, but only closed for the regularly scheduled week of fall Break. It hit the threshold a third time and closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Copper Hills High: Closed for one day for cleaning and returned, like normal, on Sept. 23. It hit the threshold for cases again on Oct. 15, but only closed for the regularly scheduled week of fall break. On Nov. 4, the school crossed the threshold a third time and moved online for more than three weeks through Thanksgiving.

West Jordan High: Closed Oct. 1 for two weeks of online learning. After returning briefly in person, it had a second outbreak and closed Nov. 12 for two more weeks of online learning.

Mountain Ridge High: Closed Oct. 1 for two weeks of online learning. After returning briefly in person, it had a second outbreak and closed Nov. 12 for two more weeks of online learning.

Bingham High: Closed for two days for cleaning and returned, like normal, on Oct. 5. It then closed a second time, on Oct. 27 for three days of online learning after the regularly scheduled fall break. It hit the threshold a third time and closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Herriman High: Hit 15 cases on Oct. 15, but didn’t cross the district’s higher 1% threshold and no action was taken. It hit the threshold again and closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Copper Mountain Middle: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning before hitting 15 cases. During that time off, though, it crossed the threshold.

Elk Ridge Middle: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Fort Herriman Middle: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning before hitting 15 cases. During that time off, though, it crossed the threshold.

Hidden Valley Middle*: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Mountain Creek Middle*: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

South Jordan Middle: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Sunset Ridge Middle: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

West Hills Middle*: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

West Jordan Middle*: Closed Nov. 12 for two weeks of online learning.

Joel P. Jensen Middle*: Closed Nov. 20 for two weeks of online learning.

Oquirrh Hills Middle: Closed Nov. 20 for two weeks of online learning before hitting 15 cases. During that time off, though, it crossed the threshold.

Butterfield Canyon Elementary: Closed Nov. 20 for two weeks of online learning. It was at 14 cases when it closed, but reached the 15-person threshold the following day.

Foothills Elementary*: Closed Nov. 20 for two weeks of online learning.

Westvale Elementary*: Closed Nov. 20 for two days of online learning before the regularly scheduled Thanksgiving break.

Blackridge Elementary: Hit the 15-case threshold on Nov. 24, but no action was taken.

*Six of the closed middle schools did not hit the 15-case threshold, but the district said too many students and teachers were out on quarantine to continue with face-to-face learning.

Murray School District

Murray High: Closed Oct. 5 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

American Preparatory Academy, Draper 1 campus: Closed Sept. 1 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Providence Hall High: Closed Oct. 1 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person, it closed again on Nov. 23 for two weeks of online learning.

Providence Hall Junior High: Closed Nov. 23 for two weeks of online learning.

Juan Diego High: Closed Oct. 22 for 10 days of online learning before hitting 15 cases. During that time off, though, it crossed the threshold. It has since returned in person.

Intermountain Christian High: Closed Nov. 2 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

UTAH COUNTY

Alpine School District

Timpanogos High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Sept. 22 for two weeks. It hit the 15-case threshold again in November, but it did not go above the district’s higher 1% threshold and no action was taken.

American Fork High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Sept. 28 for two weeks. It hit the 15-case threshold again in November, and was again moved to a hybrid schedule.

Lone Peak High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Sept. 28 for two weeks. It hit the 15 case-threshold again in November, and was again moved to a hybrid schedule.

Orem High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Sept. 28 for two weeks. It has since returned in person.

Skyridge High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Nov. 12 for two weeks.

Cedar Valley High: It hit the 15-case threshold in November, but didn’t cross the district’s higher 1% threshold and no action was taken.

Pleasant Grove High*: It did not surpass 15 active cases, but it also moved to a temporary hybrid model on Sept. 3 for two weeks as a precaution. It has since returned in person.

Lehi High: It hit the 15-case threshold in November, but it did not go above the district’s higher 1% threshold and no action was taken.

Lehi Junior High: It hit the 15-case threshold in November, but it did not go above the district’s higher 1% threshold and no action was taken.

Provo School District

Timpview High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Nov. 11 for two weeks.

Nebo School District

Maple Mountain High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Nov. 13 for two weeks.

Salem Hills High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Nov. 13 for two weeks.

Springville High: Moved to a hybrid learning schedule on Nov. 13 for two weeks.

WEBER COUNTY

Weber School District

Roy High: Closed Oct. 14 for two weeks of online learning. After returning in person briefly, it closed again on Nov. 23 for another two weeks of online learning.

Bonneville High: Closed Oct. 29 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Weber High: Closed Nov. 5 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.

Snowcrest Junior High: Closed Nov. 10 for two weeks of online learning. It had not reached the 15-person threshold, but the district said too many students and teachers were out on quarantine to continue with face-to-face learning.

Orion Junior High: Closed Nov. 13 for two weeks of online learning.

Fremont High: Closed Nov. 19 for two weeks of online learning.

Ogden School District

Ben Lomond High: Closed Nov. 2 for two weeks of online learning. It has since returned in person.
