Want to support Black-owned restaurants on the Space Coast? Here's a list of places to try - Florida Today

As tensions simmer following weeks of demonstrations proclaiming Black Lives Matter, people of all races are asking: How can we support our African-American friends and neighbors?

"One way is to help improve their economics by patronizing Black-owned businesses at least once a week," said Rob Rains, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Brevard.

The suggestion was made last week during a community discussion hosted by the United Way, the Space Coast Health Alliance and the Community Foundation of Brevard.

Jenna DeAngelis, a member of FLORIDA TODAY's 321 Flavor: Where Brevard Eats group on Facebook, had a similar idea. On On June 4, posted in the group asking to start a list of Black-owned restaurants.

"It’s really simple," she said. "I have committed to being a better ally. Becoming a better ally begins with educating yourself, showing up, and paying up — on a local and national level. This is a small way I can contribute to the success of Black people."

This list is a result of the thread DeAngelis started. Some hours may be different, so it's always a good idea to call ahead. If you know of restaurants or food trucks that should be added to this list, please email sleonard@floridatoday.com.
