(CNN) — An Indian man who went to hospital with abdominal pain told doctors he had swallowed some earphones. The truth turned out to be weirder, his doctor said.
When the man first went to the hospital in northeastern India last month, he was prescribed a laxative to help him expel the set of corded earbuds he claimed he had ingested, said Dr. Walliul Islam, a general surgeon at the hospital.
Five days later, he returned, saying the device was still inside him. “We then conducted an endoscopy but still couldn’t find anything. As the patient complained of severe pain, we decided to perform surgery and found that there was nothing in his intestine,” Islam told CNN.
It was at that point that an x-ray revealed the man to have a two-foot-long charging cable in his bladder. He admitted he had inserted it through his penis.
A second surgery was performed, and the cord was removed from the bladder.
“If he had been honest, then it would have saved us the trouble and we could have treated him sooner,” Islam said.
The patient has been discharged, Islam said, adding, “The psychiatrist can help him beyond this point.”
